UNDP ICMIF Insurance Innovation Challenge Fund -  Winning Project

Replicating the microinsurance MBA model to expand outreach

Through this project, MiMAP (RIMANSI) will assist SEDMFI MBA and its mother institution, SEDMFI, in developing operational and IT systems aligned with the Microsinsurance Mutual Benefit Association (MBA) business model. The project will be providing business training to the MBA to develop microinsurance policies and support information systems development. The beneficiaries of this project will be low-income households, including Filpino families in poverty whose households earn below PHP10, 957.00 (approximately USD193).

Their project will enhance microinsurance outreach by replicating and customizing the Microinsurance MBA business model and best practices, particularly the operational and IT systems needed for pre-operating Mi-MBAs. The project will implement the e-MUTUALS (electronic-MBA Unified Technology for a User-friendly and Accurate Logging System), co-developed by MiMAP, to help smaller Mi-MBAs automate data capture and reporting. It features member profile management, payment and claims history, and standard reporting, ensuring accurate information.

Furthermore, SEDMFI will issue the family Basic Life Insurance Plan (BLIP) which will require only premiums of PHP 30 (approximately USD 0.53) weekly, making it more affordable than traditional insurance. With this inclusive product, MiMAP through SEDMFI MBA targets to sell 10,000 policies to their member-owners ensuring social protection to 30,000 individuals.
