First South-to-South technical assistance
(TA) meeting under UNDP ICMIF IIC

Representatives from the Development of Humane Action (DHAN) Foundation and Sanasa Insurance Company, Ltd. (SICL) met as part of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF) Insurance Innovation Challenge (IIC). This virtual meeting was facilitated by the ICMIF Foundation through Microsoft Teams. 

M.P. Vasimalai, Executive Director, Dhan Foundation (India), Ahila Devi, CEO of People Mutuals, DHAN Foundation (India), and Dan De Silva, Senior Manager – International Relations & Human Resources Information Systems, SICL (Sri Lanka) represented and introduced their respective organisations.  

Through the IIC technical assistance, the Foundation will support SICL’s participation in DHAN Foundation’s International Course Advanced Reflective Education and Training (ART). This will help deepen SICL’s understanding and appreciation of Dhan’s successful mutual microinsurance programs. 

De Silva highlighted the value of being able to connect with other mutual microinsurers through the IIC “The South-to-South technical assistance opportunity provided by The ICMIF Foundation is unique and will allow us to improve scaling up of the IIC-project product Labandi Ras Wasi (LRW). He said, “We hope to learn how distribution is done in other countries and adopt it here in Sri Lanka and increase the number of policies we will issue”.
